Two major J Class Trophies will be presented at the J Class Barcelona Regatta prize giving which will take place at the main stage in the 37th America’s Cup Race Village on the Moll de la Fusta at 1830hrs.
The regatta winner will receive the magnificent J Class Trophy. This was purchased by the class in 2015 and was last awarded to the winners of the inaugural J Class World Championships, Lionheart, in Newport, RIin 2017. The trophy is a superb handmade and hand chased Antique SterlingSilver Cup and Cover from the 19th Century. There is a gilt inside to the cup and cover with chased panels of different shells on the cover and a beautiful finial of a Cherub in a Nautilus shell in the centre of cover. Handles of mythological fish, there are shell feet on base. And most appropriately there is fantastic, chased scene of three sailing boats on ocean waves on front panel!
The other trophy is the perpetual award for the best J Class boat over the season based on performance at a number of events. The Kohler Cup is presented in memory of Terry Kohler who was a former owner of North Sails who was an entrepreneur and philanthropist. The Kohler Cup is the season-long points championship awarded to a J-Class yacht. Over the course of the season, each yacht will accumulate points based on their results, with events bearing more significance as the season progresses. Coming into this J ClassBarcelona Regatta Velsheda were on top of the standings.
